Kelly Stephenson BSW, MSW, RSW

I have been a registered member of the OCSWSSW since 2009, have a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto, as well as an Honours Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Toronto Metropolitan University. I provide virtual individual and couples therapy and strive to create a safe nonjudgemental environment in which to support you on your therapeutic journey. I understand, through my own personal therapy, how challenging it can be to do the work. Which is why I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure they feel heard, understood, validated, celebrated and on track toward achieving their goals.

I proudly declared my intention to become a therapist when I was 11 and the journey took longer than anticipated, but it has all been worth it. I have lived experience as a parentified child, with emotionally abusive and healthy relationships, in navigating concussion recovery, in living with an autoimmune disorder, and with various life transitions. I've struggled in many of the ways we all do and I know what it's like to be where you are.

Experience

I have been working in the field of social work since 2001. I have experience in a variety of settings, including supporting students at the University of Toronto, several years at walk in clinics in the city, and more than two years at a busy Toronto private practice. I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, low self esteem, challenges with gender and sexual identity, sexual abuse, grief, trauma, boundaries, addiction, suicidal ideation, chronic illness, and a wide variety of relationship issues. My approach is holistic and client centred, focusing on each individual's unique needs and strengths. This practice is 2SLGBTQIA+ positive and welcomes diversity of any kind. I am a sex positive therapist, which means I view sexuality as an important part of a healthy life, and provide a judgement free space in which to support and develop healthy sexual expression. I am passionate about helping people improve their mental health, sexual health, and overall well-being.
